Is house sitting for everyone

When Rick proposed being house sitters, it seemed like a good idea.

Several days into our first one it still does.

We had to qualify with police reports and recommendations.

Regularly he gets listings from places all over the world...people who want to go away and make sure their house is taken care of and their pets.

We see places we would like to spend more time, but hotel costs can reduce our travel. However, if the price is looking after a dog, cat and a house, it's not just a price to pay, it is a real experience living in a foreign country.
  • How do faucets work, what are door knobs like, is there a local butcher and baker?
  • What is the heating system like?
  • Television programs or programmes?
  • Language?
  • Transportation?
  • Closets or armoires
  • Golf courses (for Rick)
Etc.

It is a question of timing and place for us. Scotland, Belgium, Italy, Malta...we are open... Many look wonderful but we also love being in Argelès and in Geneva so we want to limit ourselves to a couple a year.

Now we are in Ireland with a delightful dog, Rooby (Ruby). She thinks she can take the place of my mouse. She brought me my socks in bed this morning, which I took as a suggestion she wanted to go out. I was right.

The owner has been wonderful in leaving excellent instructions not just on the dog but the house and its quirks.

Rooby decided quickly we fed, walked and loved her, so we were welcome.

We have two requirements.
  • Good wifi so we can write.
  • Only dogs and/or cats...no horses, chickens, llamas, cows
Last night Rick mentioned a house sit in Palma. I sat up when  he said there was a chin.

I've known, loved and/or owned six chins.

Palma...hmmm. We've written. Maybe she'll say yes, maybe not, but dreaming is half the fun. The rest is living it.
