Good idea and the stats agree

France is putting Pass Contraception packets into the lycées (high schools). Teenagers can get seven coupons which entitles them to a free medical exam, free blood test and coupons for contraception. The girls' package includes birth control pills for a year. Parents aren't going hysterical. There isn't even a murmur of disagreement.

For those that think this a horrible idea consider these stats.

In the US there are 55.6 pregnancy per 1000 girls between age 15-19 with a 30.2% abortion rate.

In France it is 9 pregnancies per 1000 girls with a 13.2% abortion rate. This is before the Pass Contraception packs, so hopefully the stats will be even lower in the future. Wouldn't it be wonderful if there were no unwanted pregnancies?

Years ago I was at a meeting where the attendees were trying to stop CD-Roms. I think of people who made horse shoes trying to stop the car. The world will have about as much success stopping young people from wanting and probably having sex. Come to think of it, they will have less.

This realistic approach means less unwanted babies and even as a pro-choice person, I believe not having an unwanted pregnancy means less abortions and that is a very, very good idea.
