Postal guinea pigs

I had a package I wanted to mail to my daughter. Just a few silly gifts, nothing of major importance. Nothing time sensitive, especially since one gift was a stocking stuffer, I'd forgotten to send to her at Christmas.

We decided to try the weighing machine at the new coffee shop/groceriette in the village.

It was much like the ones in France EXCEPT the new store owner, his son and another man were standing around it in the corner of the store reserved for postal thingies.

"It isn't working: it'll be fixed by this afternoon," the new owner said. He was apologetic.

The other man, we learned, was from the postal service.

"We could take it to Vésenaz," my housemate J said. There is an all day post there. The one in Collonge, where we planned to eat lunch, was already closed for the day.

A conference ensued. They accepted our offer to be guinea pigs. Check the price at another post and come back and make sure it is the same, that the machine was working.

Why not? It is just that kind of irregularity in the day, that gives us pleasure. Thus we had lunch, checked the weight, came home and J when she went out for her afternoon coffee, took the package up to the village.

The label would not have passed muster with the previous OCD postmaster because a bit of the ink was blurred. Still it was readable.

All is in order. The package will go out to Boston tomorrow.

I wonder if I have a new career as postal guinea pig testing postal services throughout Switzerland?

NAHHHHH
